Baidu App Apple Watch Concept
A concept for extending Baidu App's context-aware experience to the Apple Watch.
Background
Baidu App was evolving from a mobile search app into a broader information and services platform, combining search, personalized reminders, local services, and deals.
This concept explored how those capabilities could be reimagined for Apple Watch: not by shrinking the phone experience onto a smaller screen, but by surfacing lightweight, timely, and context-aware information throughout the day.
The concept helped communicate the product opportunity internally and contributed to the project being formally initiated.
User Scenario: A Day with Baidu App on Apple Watch
To make the concept concrete, I used Xiao Wang, a typical urban user in China, as the scenario persona.
08:09 AM | Home
When Xiao Wang wakes up, Baidu App surfaces timely information on his watch, including trending searches, U.S. stock market updates, and the day's weather. These updates are powered by Baidu App's contextual card capabilities, which surface relevant information based on user interests, time, and context.
09:09 AM | Parking lot
When Xiao Wang reaches the parking lot, Baidu App uses its contextual card capabilities, time, and geofencing to surface commute traffic updates on his watch. He taps the notification, and the detailed navigation flow continues through Baidu Maps on his phone.
11:50 AM | Shopping mall
After a morning of work, Xiao Wang and his colleagues go to a nearby mall for lunch. Based on the time of day and his location, Baidu App surfaces restaurant coupon recommendations through its contextual card capabilities. The coupons are supported by Baidu App's local commerce business, and Xiao Wang chooses the best deal.

After lunch, Xiao Wang uses a coupon from Baidu App's local commerce business at checkout. A notification appears on his watch, and he leaves a quick positive review from the watch.
04:00 PM | Company
While Xiao Wang is busy at work, Baidu App reminds him that his movie is starting soon. The reminder is connected to Baidu App's local commerce business, which supported ticketing, deals, and other service-related scenarios. He remembers that he planned to see a movie with his girlfriend that evening.
07:00 PM | Parking lot
After work, Xiao Wang and his girlfriend arrive at the parking lot. Xiao Wang asks Baidu App on Apple Watch for directions to the movie theater by voice. The watch shows traffic conditions, and he continues navigation on his phone.
09:39 PM | Home
After the movie, Xiao Wang returns home still feeling excited. Baidu App sends a message telling him that he won a small prize from an online lottery ticket he had bought. It is only RMB 10, but it becomes a small, delightful ending to the day.
